Do White Arab North Africans really consider themselves to be not part of Africa?

I have this Tunisian friend and an Algerian one, they're both White (descendants of Arabized Europeans) and they both told me that they never felt they're Africans, they either felt they're part of the Arab World or part of France, but never from Africa, why is that?
