Is state of new york just like the state of north Carolina?

new york its, a big state so i wanted to be sure.. and ask this simple questions well here i go! is the state of new york similar to the state of north Carolina? like upstate new york? i mean everything about the state in general the standard way of leaving the lifestyle and.. also the houses the cost? one pack of cigarettes here cost 2 dollars how, much would they cost in new york? you know, that's' my main question and i will appreciated guys if you could answer to my simple question :) oh yea do they,also live in houses,? like they live in north Carolina? are they expensive to live in or cheap? please give me a simple answer thank you guys! :)
